Press J to jump to the feed. Proper aiming of Frozen Orb in D2, which was having the orb pass through an enemy and exploding right behind an enemy at max range took practice. Shards should slow, not damage. I want everything in this fucking game to be more like diablo 2. I really want Frozen Orb to work more like the one in Diablo 2. When I played I remembered having to skim the orb next to enemies, but I'm reading now that was a bug that got fixed. I understand that we don't want FO to be an end all be all only need 1 skill ability, but right now I just don't think it lives up to it's name. It's not horrible in it's current form, it's certainly functional, but it could be so much more. Right now all of the emphasis is pretty much on the center orb and since it uses the same speed as Arcane Orb it feels like they just fly into nonexistance almost immediately. Frozen Orb in it's current iteration is pretty much just a reskinned Celestial Orb with cold damage. They also hardly ever seem to hit an enemy on the edge of the radius more than once if that. Good point on the art, I do recall them pretty much always having limitations on the amount of stuff they can do. One thing to note is that in D3 it kind of works like the way it did in D2, the orb does half it's damage on the first pass through and then the other half when it explodes. I'd like it to be a bit more like the original. The main difference from D2 being the orb doing the damage instead of the shards. I feel that if Blizzard wants to bring back the magic that made D2 Frozen Orb so amazing, then they really need to do more than take an existing rune and color it blue. I don't think it'd be too difficult. It doesn't feel like I'm firing out swirly orbs of death all over the screen, it just feels like I'm burst spamming the center lane with arcane orbs. Aaah yes the sound of my college dorm room. Even the cold Sorc meta moved from FO to Blizzard after synergies. In it's current form I really don't care for a cold damage arcane orb with shiny ice graphics that do nothing. Changing the way the skill looks would most likely mean having the art team having another pass at it. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. My recommendations to make it an extremely fun main skill: Make the shards matter. In terms of resources they're using, I don't think changing the graphics for a skill that isn't even broken would be extremely high on their list of things to do. I feel like this is the most important aspect. It should definitely be a large AoE spell in my opinion, that's the whole point, and damage should be balanced accordingly. It really doesn't feel like the D3 dev team took the time to understand why everyone loved FO in D2 and implement it accordingly. Damage mostly with shards on the way, and then a bigger blast at the end. Anyway, this kind of well written posts should be posted on the official forum. Especially with such an iconic spell like Frozen Orb, the current design just doesn't do it justice. I am not in the beta. This actually how Cluster Grenades work on the DH ;D. I am relatively aware of this aspect and had written up a bullet point on it but later decided to redact. Heaven forbid they make the skill a desirable option in D3 : P. I agree with both. Serious question: if the d3 frozen orb behaved exactly like d2's, would anybody not use it? Just so you know in D2 the aiming of Frozen Orb absolutely mattered. That's it. We use cookies on our websites for a number of purposes, including analytics and performance, functionality and advertising. Each shard does frozen orb's tooltip damage and when the orb passes through you're hitting with more shards. Right now the actual damaging portion of the AoE is pretty tiny (same as Arcane Orb/Celestial Orb).

Until you get a pair of Frostburn gloves. I completely agree though. Stay awhile and listen. Right now the shards seem to hit very few times and do significantly less damage than the orb. Blizzard please update this spell! /r/Diablo is the greatest source for Diablo-related news and discussion on the Internet. The bane of my parents existence was that sound. I could definitely get behind this suggestion /nostalgia! Reduce the center orb radius and slow down the orb so that shards can actually hit things. Plenty of other Wizard spells have a larger radius: Meteor Shower, Blizzard, Sleet Storm, etc. Learn more about Reddits use of cookies. But it seems like your point about Frozen Orb can be expanded to almost everything about RoS. TIL. Just so you know the orb in d2 doesn't actually do damage. Make the shards all that matter, and make it so passing the orb through an enemy releases additional shards. It would just be too big of an AOE, but add a 1.5 second "chill" effect and now you are talking. When it explodes on them you get the highest burst from the spell. In D2 the shards did just as much damage as the orb itself! Noobs would throw it randomly, but when it passed through an enemy it did an explosion equivalent to the final one that did a substantial amount of damage. That said, this is pretty much my holy grail of beta feedback, and that's what they wanted, so here's to hoping. When you are just flinging these really quick orbs straight at things, I don't know how else to describe it, but the feedback received in my pleasure center of my brain just isn't the same as it was in D2. I would love to see some skill based usage make it back. A bad and uncreative way of bringing back old features. They should implement this with the D3 one as well. I'd be down with: Shards slow; AP cost reduced; Orb damage adjusted to more closely match damage. That said, I really love your suggestion and I hope they find the time to give this skill some attention.

It would be nice to see the sound, the shard improvement. To me, the way frozen orb works while in a slow time bubble isn't too far away from what I think would be ideal. Shards should be flying everywhere and you should be able to tell that they are hitting things and damaging them. Interesting, I always thought the orb did some damage while it was passing through an enemy. So in D3 you want to also make sure your target is getting hit by the tail explosion, which is kind of skill based? It was my favorite skill in D2 and is probably my #1 awaited feature in RoS. That said, after using FO in the beta, I am kind of disappointed. So the Community manager could hand it to the game developer.

Given this application I wasn't sure how to make my point in my OP, but I definitely agree that this should be taken into consideration! Well, let's remember there were plenty of other popular builds for Sorcs in D2. Let me be the first to say that I am very excited about that fact that they are trying to bring back Frozen Orb.
