It is remarkable how many of you have become a regular part of Babettes cast of characters and friends. Eventually, the restaurant expanded into four East Bay locations, but shuttered its Albany and Oakland outposts in 2018. After 23 years of pizza and beer, Lanesplitters Berkeley spot is shutting down but it wont be dark for long. Beer, BYO Wine, Cocktails, Corkage Fee, Full Bar, Gluten-free Options, Non-Smoking, Patio/Outdoor Dining, Patio/Outdoor Dining, Takeout, Wheelchair Access, Wine, port glazed shallots, heirloom cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, olives, haricots verts, garlic, white wine and herb butter, free-raised, with horseradish mashed potatoes, market vegetables. I will work on a cookbook.

Lots of good times and happy moments have been there over the years - numerous great, lasting memories.

After the COVID-19 crisis shut down the UC Berkeley campus, Babette was forced to shut down too.

The bread is fresh and always served hot. Freedom Parkway and North Highland Stop. A little crowded so service was slow, but clientele that Babettes attracts was fun to watch - from Buckhead fancy to Real Housewives of Atlanta.

But, also, Ellis told Nosh Friday, we always wanted our own space. Restrictions like museum hours meant Babette couldnt be a restaurant in the traditional sense, we could only be a cafe, really. Ellis and Hooker started looking harder for a space after their struggles during the pandemic, eventually stumbling across the possibility that they could take over the Lanesplitter location. Now with a caf which serves breakfast, lunch, and yummy desserts in the original bakery space, over 15 employees service the local community and the 35 plus wholesale accounts.

And its time to move on in our lives. In January, Rogers says, hell hand the keys to Joan Ellis and Patrick Hooker, who will move their popular restaurant, Babette, from its location inside the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) to the 2033 San Pablo Ave. storefront. Lanesplitter, a Berkeley pizza institution since 1998, will serve its last pie Friday.
